The Role of a Hospice Volunteer

At Agape Hospice, our volunteers do many things and fill various roles, including direct support to patients and families and administrative services. We thoroughly train and screen all our volunteers, ensuring safety and quality for families, patients, and the volunteers themselves. Volunteers also offer companionship and emotional support, providing a valuable presence to patients and their loved ones through many hospice care services. Some of the tasks volunteers take on include the following:

Patient & Family Support – Volunteers visit patients and families in their homes or long-term care facilities. Volunteers provide companionship to both the patient and family caregivers. They’re caring, friendly faces for sharing stories, reading, watching TV, and playing games.
Supportive Caregiving – Hospice volunteers also provide respite care, offering relief to family caregivers who may need time to attend to personal matters.
Administrative Support – They assist with office work in our headquarters in Portland, OR. Some administrative tasks include filing, typing, data entry, taking phone calls, and more. Their behind-the-scenes contributions help Agape NW’s many vital services to operate efficiently.
